特徴

産地:Pampus argenteus, often called either the silver or white pomfret, is a species of butterfish that lives in coastal waters off the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. Fish of this family are characterized by their flat bodies, forked tail fins, and long pectoral fins.
Indo-West Pacific: Persian Gulf to Indonesia, north to Hokkaido, Japan. Extralimital captures have been made from the Adriatic and off Hawaii. Not recorded from Australasia. Northeastern Atlantic: 3 reports of capture reported from this area (Ref. 86350).
It is distributed in the India Ocean and Western Pacific Ocean. in China, it can be found in almost all coasts of China. Main fisheries are Lvsi Fisheries in the south of Yellow Sea. The Fishing season in Guangdong and Hainan is from March to May, from April to August in Minnan, from April to June in Zhoushan and Lvsi Fisheries, and from June to July in Bohai Sea.
特徴:Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 37-43; Vertebrae: 34 - 37. Body firm, very deep, oval, and compressed. Operculum absent; gill opening reduced to a vertical slit on the side of the body; gill membrane broadly united to isthmus. Dorsal and anal fins preceded by a series of 5 to 10 blade-like spines with anterior and posterior points. Pelvic fins absent. Caudal fin deeply forked, the lower lobe longer than the upper. Color is gray above grading to silvery white towards the belly, with small black dots all over the body. Fins are faintly yellow; vertical fins with dark edges.
Inshore species, usually in schools over muddy bottoms, associated with fish species like Nemipterus and Leiognathus. Adults feed on ctenophores, salps, medusae, and other zooplankton groups. Western populations spawn from late winter through the summer with peaks from April to June. Sold fresh in local markets or shipped frozen to urban centers. Used in Chinese medicine (Ref. 12166).
Silver pomfrets are usually silver/white in color, with few small scales. They can grow up to 4-6 kg (8–13 lb). However, due to overfishing, specimens weighing less than 1 kg (2 lb) are more commonly seen.
This fish is prized in the Indo-Pacific region for its taste. It is called pamplet in Mumbai and vawall in parts of South India. It is called zubaidi in Arabic, which is derived from the word zubdah, which means butter, due to its tender flesh.
